Project: Destiny City Church
Location: Tacoma, Washington
Client: Destiny City Church
Scope: Renovation
Completed: 2011

In order to accommodate a growing congregation and a need for an updated space, the church purchased an abandoned movie theater and undertook major renovations to the building to turn it into a new church building.

The extensive remodel of this 30,000 sf building created classrooms, meeting spaces, a youth activity room and staff offices in addition to the primary social spaces, including a cafe area, and a sanctuary that seats up to 400.

Casey + Dechant Architects took advantage of the existing high roof structure to create voluminous gathering spaces and second floor classrooms. Bold, lively colors were used to create energetic spaces that celebrate the church’s spirit and ideals.
