Project: Switchback Apartments
Location: Lacey, Washington
Client: Freestone, Inc.
Completed: 2024

This 12-building community, built on a gently sloping site, made use of the topography to incorporate bioswales at each building to reduce the size of the primary water retention facility. This in turn allowed for the preservation of existing mature trees on site at key boundary points, which aids in blocking the view of an industrial complex to the south, as well as easing the transition between the development and neighboring single family homes.

With 183 units, the buildings were arranged primarily along the site boundaries to keep tenant ameities located centrally, while also making use of natural areas for trails and a dog park.
